Common Entrance / KS3 Biology – Plants & Photosynthesis
✅ Learn or revise complicated concepts easily
✅ Information broken down into short chunks
✅ Full-colour illustrations on every page
Pretty much everything in our world stems from the process of photosynthesis, so saying this pack is of vital importance is not really an over statement. Apart from being part of the curriculum, understanding the impact on our world of plants and the process of photosynthesis is an essential base for so many other biology topics. This is one of the key modules to pull everything together. We would suggest using this module early in your biology framework as it helps clarify so many other concepts and processes. After all, without photosynthesis we could not exist!
This Common Entrance & Key Stage 3 Topic pack covers the plants and photosynthesis module of the syllabus in a very visual format and, by using an active revision game and illustrations alongside the key points, this topic pack is ideal for revising this Common Entrance & Key Stage 3 biology topic.
One of the key features of our science topic packs is the use of the glossary of key words and terms. This is a vital tool to ensure that pupils recognise and understand the key words associated with each topic BEFORE they start learning about the specific topic. This way they can focus on the processes rather than struggling with key words and learning will be both more effective and less stressful for them.
Topics Covered Include:
- Glossary of key terms
- The differences between plant and animal cells
- The importance of photosynthesis and plants in the production of oxygen
- The percentages of gases in the air
- The difference between respiration and photosynthesis
- Equations for respiration and photosynthesis
- The seven life processes
- Specialised plant cells
- The importance of water for plants
- Osmosis and diffusion
- Plant growth and biomass
- Soil, enzymes and fertilizers
- Biofuels
- The Carbon Cycle
- How to test for starch in a leaf
This is a key pack to have as this topic is essential to know when you get to GCSEs.
About Plants and Photosynthesis
Plants are organisms that belong to the kingdom Plantae. They are unique in their ability to photosynthesise, which means they can use light energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose (sugar) and oxygen.
This process is called photosynthesis, and it is how plants produce their own food. The oxygen produced during photosynthesis is released into the atmosphere, making it available for other living organisms to breathe. Photosynthesis is a crucial part of the global ecosystem, as it provides the primary source of food and oxygen for all living things on Earth.
Specialised Plant Cells
There are many types of plant cells, but two of the most common types are:
- Xylem cells: These cells are responsible for transporting water and minerals from the roots to the rest of the plant.
- Phloem cells: These cells transport sugars and other organic compounds from the leaves to the rest of the plant.
Learning about plant cells and how they contribute to the plant’s overall health is essential for KS3 biology.
